Position Overview

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Security Operations Advisor to enhance our Protection Services Team.

As a Security Operations Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in leading a dedicated team of security personnel across VCH. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Offering strategic guidance and oversight to security officers, ensuring effective security operations.
  • Serving as the primary Duty Officer, responsible for the comprehensive planning, organization, and execution of security protocols during various Protection Service-related events.
  • Collaborating with Protection Services Managers, Coordinators, and frontline Relational Security staff, as well as contracted security services.
  • Ensuring compliance with established policies, procedures, and standards while overseeing all security operations within VCH.
  • Providing leadership and support to frontline security operations, acting as a resource for key site contacts regarding the Protection Services program.
  • Assigned to specific locations and may require travel to various sites within VCH to manage your designated portfolio.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in criminal justice/law enforcement, business administration, or a related social sciences field, complemented by specialized training in security, fire safety, emergency management, occupational safety, and risk management.
  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in a large multi-union organization or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must be eligible to obtain OFA2 and AST certifications and possess a valid security license.
  • A valid BC driver's license with a clean driving record is required, as this role may involve the use of a VCH-owned vehicle for travel within the geographic area.

  • Strong written communication skills for developing business cases and promotional materials.
  • Innovative mindset to create new programs and initiatives that enhance service delivery and promote healthy workplace environments.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and related software applications.
  • Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

The work schedule, including days off and work areas, may be subject to change based on operational needs and relevant agreements. Successful candidates may be required to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.
