Job Overview:
In this role, you will report to the Pharmacy Manager and work closely with pharmacists to ensure optimal pharmacy services for our patients. Your primary responsibility will be to accurately process prescriptions, ensuring that the correct medications are provided to patients while managing related tasks and inventory effectively. You will also be responsible for transcribing verbal orders, transferring prescriptions, and verifying the technical details of each prescription. Exercising professional judgment is crucial, as you will need to identify when to consult with a pharmacist for clinical expertise.
- Full-time position, typically 40 hours per week.
- Shifts will generally fall between Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist pharmacists in delivering specialized care for long-term care facilities and other settings.
- Manage prescription refills, handle customer inquiries, and support front store operations.
- Perform data entry, receive prescriptions, and oversee billing and adjudication processes.
- Prepare medical prescriptions and conduct final checks for accuracy.
- Supervise compounding processes, ensuring quality improvement and proper supply management.
- Conduct care home visits for medication pickups and audits.
- Independently prepare and process prescriptions, including compounding medications.
- Receive and verify verbal prescriptions from healthcare providers.
- Conduct final checks on filled prescriptions prior to patient release.
- Provide education on health aids and devices to patients.
- Gather patient medication histories and perform point-of-care testing.
- Manage inventory through cycle counts and investigate discrepancies.
- Document administrative functions and complete necessary audits.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations regarding prescriptions.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and promote safety initiatives.
- Oversee the pharmacy environment, ensuring safe storage and handling of medications.
- Participate in quality assurance audits of pharmacy operations.
- Assist patients in understanding their insurance coverage and benefits.
- Recognize unusual patterns in medication distribution and respond accordingly.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Licensed Pharmacy Technician in the relevant province.
- Pharmacy Technician Certificate from an accredited institution.
- Experience in retail pharmacy is advantageous.
- Familiarity with pharmacy software is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Professional demeanor with excellent communication skills.
- Completion of a Criminal Record Check is required due to the nature of the position.
