Machine Learning Scientist/Engineer – NLP/GenAI Foundation Models

At Altea Healthcare, we are revolutionizing the delivery of outpatient/post-acute care by leveraging cutting-edge technologies. We are seeking an experienced Machine Learning Scientist/Engineer with deep subject matter expertise in NLP/GenAI Foundation Models to contribute to our AI team.

This role will focus on designing, implementing, and deploying GenAI applications to improve care delivery and quality for post-acute patients. The ideal candidate will bring technical mastery, fluency with foundation models, genuine interest in the medical domain, and strong critical thinking skills to the role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop next-generation NLP, ML & AI products and services for healthcare, collaborating with MLEs and software engineers to ship them into production.
  • Improve processes and tools to generate ground truth for building models.
  • Lead model evaluation processes to ensure accuracy, fairness, and reproducibility.
  • Implement and design novel LM approaches inspired by relevant literature.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field and implement state-of-the-art models from the literature for benchmarking.
  • Document model architectures, design decisions, and codebase to facilitate future maintenance and enhancements.
Requirements:
  • Master's or PhD degree in ML, NLP, information retrieval, or a related field.
  • Experience with state-of-the-art NLP algorithms and AI models.
  • Demonstrated experience with LLM techniques, including prompt optimization and parameter-efficient fine-tuning.
  • Demonstrated experience building foundation models.
  • 3+ years of experience training/pretraining/finetuning NLP/GenAI models.
  • Demonstrated experience experimenting/building architecture layers in neural networks and constructing customized loss functions.
  • Demonstrated experience with RAG, model distillation, reinforcement learning with human feedback (RLHF).
  • Experience with small and large language models, and multimodal LLMs.
  • Familiarity with NLP similarity metrics and LLM-based evaluation frameworks (RAGAS).
  • Extensive experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch, HuggingFace, Transformers, LangChain, vectorDB, and cloud platforms (Azure).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage priorities, and deliver high-quality results within project timelines.
  • Experience with the full ML system development, deployment, and maintenance lifecycle is a plus.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) is a plus.
  • Experience with medical BERT-based models is a plus (e.g., ClinicalBERT, MedBERT, bioClinicalROBERTa).
