Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Education Support Specialist to join our team at School District #60 (Peace River North). As an Education Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing support to students with diverse needs, working collaboratively with teachers and other district personnel to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide instructional support to students, implementing educational programs as determined by the teacher/resource team/administrator and providing students with feedback for completion of daily work.
  • Construct and locate instructional materials, games, displays, and learning centers to enhance student engagement and learning.
  • Operate computers, audiovisual equipment, and adaptive technology to support student learning.
  • Supervise students during educational activities, observing and recording academic and behavioral assessment data to assist teachers in monitoring student progress.
  • Copy, transcribe, type, file, and maintain records to ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation.
  • Implement behavior management programs as determined by the teacher/resource team, providing support to students with behavioral challenges.
  • Provide person/health care and physical safety assistance to students, ensuring their well-being and safety at all times.
  • Attend team and parent professional development meetings as required, staying up-to-date on best practices and district initiatives.
  • Assist in the implementation of programs requiring intensive behavior interventions, working collaboratively with teachers and other district personnel.
  • Supervise students during classroom, gym, school, playground, and community field trips, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Foster student independence and appropriate peer interactions, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of a team, communicating effectively with teachers, administrators, and other district personnel.
  • Perform other job-related assigned comparable duties as directed, utilizing your skills and knowledge to support student learning and district initiatives.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 or equivalency
  • Current CPI status, with a willingness to maintain certification
  • Level 1 First Aid Certificate, with the potential for additional certifications
  • Education Assistant Certificate, including documented training in areas such as pervasive developmental disorders, developmental and sensory needs, personal care, technology-assisted programs, behavior support, and learning challenges
  • Formal POPARD training or experience
  • Proven ability to remain calm in difficult situations, develop positive relationships with students, and be flexible/adaptable in new or challenging situations
  • Physical ability to keep up with an active child, with the ability to work independently and set priorities
  • WHMIS Certificate and other online safety training provided by the district, with a willingness to complete these requirements
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to be an integral part of a team
  • Ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search conducted by the district prior to starting employment
