Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Social Assistance Technician to join our team at the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CBHSSJB). This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our clients and contribute to the well-being of our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct socially oriented activities in accordance with established techniques and best practices.
  • Develop and implement programs to promote public and community health prevention and promotion.
  • Collaborate with clients, community members, and healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive support services.
  • Provide education and training on social assistance techniques, public health, and community development.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Diploma of college studies with specialization in Social Work Techniques or Social Assistance Techniques from a recognized institution.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly in First Nation contexts.
  • Knowledge of Cree culture, social/health issues, and Eenou/Eeyou Miyupimaatisiiun healing practices.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills.
  • Fluency in English; fluency in Cree or French is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Holder of the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training.
  • Knowledge of MSSS programs and regulations for first lines services.
  • Basic understanding of the services offered by the shelter and awareness of other services available in the community.
