Position Overview:
The Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) Manager is responsible for safeguarding the quality of products manufactured at the bakery by establishing and executing food safety and quality strategies while adhering to all regulatory, customer, and Aspire Bakeries standards.
Key Responsibilities:
The FSQA Manager serves as a key leader within the bakery, collaborating closely with the Bakery Director. This role involves the development, implementation, and oversight of food safety and quality assurance programs, ensuring compliance with food safety and quality expectations. The FSQA Manager will report directly to the FSQA Central Services Director.
- Lead the HARPc Food Safety Plan team to assess and implement controls for biological, chemical, physical, and economically motivated hazards.
- Identify and mitigate food safety risks in products and processes, ensuring effective controls are in place.
- Act as the Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI), overseeing the food safety plan and validating preventive controls.
- Ensure compliance with Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards, such as BRC and SQF, and assist in leading program reviews.
- Enhance departmental effectiveness through technology and innovation while managing relationships with colleagues and suppliers.
- Investigate customer complaints, employing root cause analysis to determine corrective actions and improve processes.
- Promote a culture of food safety through education, communication, and recognition programs.
- Manage the FSQA team, setting objectives to meet key performance indicators and addressing training needs.
- Monitor adherence to the Food Safety and Quality Assurance budget.
- Conduct daily sensory evaluations and maintain records of bakery inspections.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Technology, or Food Science, or have equivalent experience in the food industry. A minimum of 5-7 years in a leadership role within food safety and quality assurance is required, along with experience in food processing and knowledge of HACCP, USDA, or FDA standards. Relevant certifications such as HACCP, PCQI, or SQF Practitioner are preferred.
