Position Overview:

As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the Scarborough Health Network premises. Your role will involve a combination of proactive and reactive security measures, including:

  • Conducting regular patrols of both interior and exterior areas of the facility to deter and respond to incidents.
  • Exhibiting exceptional customer service skills while assisting individuals who may be in distress or require medical help.
  • Maintaining physical fitness to effectively perform duties that require prolonged standing and walking.
  • Executing a variety of preventative measures and responding to security incidents as they arise.
  • Providing assistance under the Mental Health Act when necessary, including the use of force or restraint.
  • Offering escort services for staff and visitors upon request.
  • Delivering motor vehicle assistance to staff and visitors as needed.
  • Keeping accurate logs and documentation of all activities and service calls during your shift.
  • Writing detailed reports following investigations or significant occurrences in a timely manner.
  • Investigating incidents, conducting follow-ups, and reviewing CCTV footage as required.
  • Addressing rule violations by warning individuals and, if necessary, apprehending or evicting violators.
  • Managing various office responsibilities, including ID badge issuance, key distribution, and lost and found services.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver courteous and cooperative service with a focus on high-quality customer interactions.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse individuals across various social levels.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clinical staff and the public, maintaining authority and professionalism.
  • Remain composed and professional in high-pressure situations or when dealing with unusual circumstances.
  • Produce clear, concise, and legible reports documenting incidents and activities.
  • Report any concerns or issues to the Site Coordinator promptly.
Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid Ontario Security Guard License.
  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • A degree in Police Foundations, Protection Security and Investigations, Criminology, or Border Services is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Trespass to Property Act, Mental Health Act of Ontario, and relevant sections of the Criminal Code.
  • Proof of double Covid Vaccination and an Immunization Record (including measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and TB skin tests).
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Level C Certification.
Education Requirements:

Minimum of a Police Foundations Diploma or equivalent experience in law enforcement from a recognized institution.

Certification Requirements:

Immunization Record, COVID Double Vaccinated, Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, and a valid Ontario Security License.
