PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Your Role in Conservation.
As an Information Specialist, you will play a vital role in the stewardship and enjoyment of Gatineau Park, a key conservation area. Your main responsibility will be to deliver precise information about the Park and other attractions, recommend activities or routes to visitors, and advocate for the park's conservation efforts.
The mobile Information Specialist operates at various locations within Gatineau Park, providing visitors with guidance and orientation regarding Park activities, regulations, and specific details related to the Fall Rhapsody program, which occurs on weekends during the autumn season.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
• Candidates must have completed secondary education and be enrolled in a post-secondary program during the upcoming fall semester.
• Candidates must be fluently bilingual in both official languages.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES:
• Strong interpersonal communication skills for both individual and group interactions;
• Relevant experience in public engagement, client services, or tourism;
• Familiarity with Gatineau Park and the National Capital Region as a tourism destination;
• Understanding of the NCC's mission and initiatives.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Availability for up to 22.5 hours per week, as this position is part-time;
• Willingness to work weekends and civic holidays throughout the contract duration;
• Uniforms will be provided by the NCC;
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions;
• Attendance at mandatory paid training sessions at the Gatineau Park Visitor Centre;
• Candidates must arrange their own transportation to work locations within Gatineau Park.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Project Officer of Sustainable Transportation, the Information Specialist will:
• Welcome and inform visitors about the various activities during the Fall Rhapsody weekends, including regular programs and points of interest in Gatineau Park;
• Provide updates on road closures throughout the event;
• Address visitor inquiries;
• Offer wayfinding assistance within the Park;
• Gather visitor feedback and suggestions;
• Contribute to service evaluations by recommending enhancements to activities, exhibits, and program materials.
