Position Overview:

Phoenix Youth Programs is dedicated to providing secure, emergency housing for young individuals in need. Our organization ensures that essential daily provisions such as meals, clothing, and shelter are available to youth seeking assistance. The Evening Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering support, crisis management, and guidance to the youth residing at our facility during their shifts. It is imperative for the Evening Support Specialist to remain alert and attentive throughout the entirety of their shift.

Compensation Package: The position offers an annual salary of $45,987, along with a comprehensive group medical insurance plan, access to an Employee and Family Assistance Program, contributions to a retirement savings plan, three weeks of vacation in the first year and four in the second, generous sick leave, a substantial paid holiday schedule, opportunities for in-house training, and professional development.

Work Schedule: 37 hours per week: Friday 4 p.m. – 12 a.m., Saturday 4 p.m. – 12 a.m., Sunday 4 p.m. – 12 a.m., Monday 4 p.m. – 12 a.m., and Tuesday 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Reporting Structure: This position reports directly to the Manager of Phoenix Youth Programs.

Screening Process: Given the sensitive nature of our work with youth, candidates must undergo a thorough criminal background check, including a vulnerable sector search, a child abuse registry check, and verification of educational qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Evaluate and respond to the immediate and fundamental needs of the youth in the program. Ensure that service delivery aligns with the mission, vision, and values of Phoenix. Adhere to Phoenix's policies, procedures, and operational framework. Supervise and oversee the program's activities during the night, ensuring adherence to safety and security protocols. Provide therapeutic support, crisis intervention, and programming tailored for the youth. Maintain alertness throughout the entire shift. Undertake significant cooking and cleaning duties. Provide coverage for team meetings and manage weekly grocery shopping. Contribute to the upkeep of the facility to foster a therapeutic environment. Complete and maintain all necessary logs, files, and records while ensuring confidentiality. Communicate overnight activities to daytime staff members. Assist in training new staff and field placement students as needed.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field; or an undergraduate degree accompanied by a Human Services diploma. Registration or candidacy for registration with a relevant professional body (if applicable). At least two years of experience in a youth residential setting. Strong understanding of youth development and the challenges associated with homelessness. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, youth service, and organizational skills. Proficiency in anti-oppressive practices, including harm reduction and client-directed approaches. Knowledge of mental health challenges, substance use, and crisis intervention strategies. Ability to lead a shift and make informed decisions. Capability to work collaboratively within a team environment. Physical ability to lift light loads, navigate stairs, and maintain an active pace. Certification in non-violent crisis intervention, suicide intervention, standard first aid, or a commitment to obtain these certifications within six months of hire. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and internet navigation. Access to a vehicle is necessary for grocery procurement.
