About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Community Outreach Worker to join our team at the Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a key member of our mental health and addictions team, you will provide a range of clinical services to adults and their families affected by mental illness and/or substance use or gambling disorder.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical services, including screening, assessment, brief intervention, case management/navigation, individual and group treatment.
  • Work in both clinic and community settings, navigating and advocating for clients and their families.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues, clients, and community organizations.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices and evidence-based treatments in mental health and addictions.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Social Work degree.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with a professional regulatory body.
  • One year post-BSW clinical experience in mental health and addictions.
  • Screening and risk assessment skills, including suicide risk assessment.
  • Ability to work independently, assess situations, and implement evidence-based plans of care.
  • Working knowledge of the DSM.
  • Experience with brief, supportive intervention strategies focusing on harm reduction and recovery.
  • Ability to navigate and de-escalate situations, offer crisis support, and engage with clients and families.
  • Group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to use motivational interviewing skills and engage with clients and families.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources, program development methods, and recovery-oriented practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social determinants of health and its importance to decision formulation.
  • Knowledge and experience with a trauma-informed care approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound and reliable clinical decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Competencies in other languages, with French being an asset.
What We Offer
  • A competitive hourly rate of $33.27-$42.01.
