About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Community Outreach Worker to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a key member of our mental health and addictions team, you will play a vital role in providing clinical services to adults and their families affected by mental illness and/or substance use or gambling disorder.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a range of clinical services, including screening, assessment, brief intervention, case management/navigation, individual and group treatment.
  • Work in both clinic and community settings, navigating and advocating for clients and their families.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations and agencies to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Utilize principles of harm reduction, community development, and psychosocial rehabilitation to support clients in achieving their goals.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices and evidence-based treatments to ensure high-quality care.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Social Work degree or equivalent.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with a professional regulatory body.
  • One year post-BSW clinical experience in mental health and addictions.
  • Excellent assessment and intervention skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong knowledge of the DSM and ability to implement evidence-based plans of care.
  • Experience in offering brief, supportive intervention strategies focusing on harm reduction and recovery.
  • Ability to navigate and de-escalate situations, and provide crisis support.
  • Group facilitation skills and ability to use motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Knowledge of community resources and program development methods.
  • Recovery-oriented practice and client-centered care principles.
  • Knowledge of social determinants of health and its importance in decision-making.
  • Trauma-informed care approach and ability to work with clients who have experienced trauma.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound clinical decisions.

  • A competitive hourly rate of $33.27-$42.01.
