Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Specialist at Michael Garron Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in advancing our equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging (EDIB) priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement EDIB programs, policies, and initiatives to advance our EDIB priorities.
  • Collaborate with the MGH Inclusion Alliance and other key stakeholders to lead, develop, and integrate EDIB goals and strategies into our processes, policies, and practices.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a new EDIB strategy, in alignment with our strategic plan.
  • Lead the implementation of the EDIB work plan objectives and priorities.
  • Develop and implement an enterprise-wide EDIB framework.
  • Conduct audits of related policies, procedures, and processes to identify systemic bias and other potential areas of focus.
  • Serve as an internal subject matter expert and advisor to internal stakeholders on matters of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and social accountability opportunities and issues.
  • Collect and analyze diversity and health equity data and interface with key stakeholders to advance inclusiveness in the organization.
  • Aid in the development and renewal of diversity and inclusion policies and practices.
  • Develop and execute a corporate-wide diversity and inclusion calendar of events and accompanying strategies.
  • Support the formation and engagement of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) established within the hospital.
  • Lead the development and execution of related EDIB programs and initiatives to drive required culture and behavioral changes in the organization.
  • Work with HR and Patient Experience on the process to consult on internal investigations relating to Human Rights Code violations.
  • Work closely with Organizational Development to design and deliver training that builds capacity and understanding of diversity, inclusion, equity, cultural competency, anti-racism, anti-oppression, etc.
  • Conduct surveys, assessments, and other reviews to determine and isolate EDIB needs and subsequent strategies to address gaps and opportunities.
  • Manage and maintain diversity, equity, and inclusion analytics and evaluation tools, generate reports for various stakeholders to highlight trends, demonstrate impact of programs, and identify opportunities for continued improvement.
  • Provide the knowledge and skills needed to foster an inclusive culture, through the development of training, workshops, and other educational and culture-building programs.
  • Serve as the EDIB representative for the hospital at external committees and within the East Toronto Health Partners.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (human resources, equity studies, human rights, sociology, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • PMP certification or equivalent would be an asset.
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience developing and successfully implementing EDIB programs, policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of best practices in equity, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and demonstrated experience in supporting transformational change.
  • Skilled at engaging in matters that require sensitivity and empathy across a diverse community; excellent judgment and discretion.
  • Experience in establishing/maintaining trusting relationships with all levels of staff, including front-line, credentialed clinicians, and executives.
  • Demonstrated experience in group facilitation, facilitating organizational change and transition, team or group dynamics, and organizational assessments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to write briefing notes, reports, organizational communications, presentations, and create learning materials to support programs.
  • Takes initiative, works proactively, coordinates, and manages projects with multiple stakeholders in a complex environment.
  • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and Anti-Racism Act and Ontario's Regulatory Registry Regulation (LGIC).
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Experience partnering with individuals and communities that have been historically marginalized and under-serviced by the health system (2SLGBTQ+, racialized, Indigenous, low socio-economic status communities, persons with disabilities, etc.).
  • Proficient understanding and application of health equity, anti-oppression, and/or population health frameworks and how these affect staff, client, and family experience, especially those from underrepresented groups.
  • Lived experience as a member of an equity-deserving group an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience working with historically oppressed communities, navigating institutional resistance.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing positive change in the field of inclusion, diversity, equity, and social responsibility.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a large, complex, and ever-changing organization.
  • Ability to coach and mentor others, including supporting mindsets related to diversity, inclusion, and equity.
  • Partners with stakeholders to develop and maintain new external partnerships.
  • Demonstrated expertise in software tools such as MS Office, including Excel and Project; proficient in the use of project management tools such as Gantt charts, A3s, project charters.
  • Experience in a Healthcare experience an asset.
