Engineers and Geoscientists BC is seeking a Regulatory Policy Specialist to contribute to our initiatives within the Legislation, Ethics, and Compliance Department.
The Regulatory Policy Specialist will report to the Legal Counsel, Policy Manager ("LCPM") and play a vital role in the formulation and modification of bylaws, policies, and procedures. This position is integral in ensuring the effective implementation and management of the policy lifecycle, with regular assessments to maintain the relevance and accuracy of our governing documents.
Key responsibilities include supporting the amendment process of bylaws through comprehensive legislative reviews and research, drafting reports, engaging in various departmental projects, collaborating on policy matters across different teams, and overseeing the approval process for policy changes. The role demands strong writing, analytical, and research capabilities to produce high-quality outputs that align with the department's objectives.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the LCPM in analyzing the implications of existing and new legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Facilitate consultations with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Conduct thorough research and analysis on bylaws and policies, including environmental scans of best practices from similar professions.
- Develop proposals and recommendations for policy initiatives.
- Create training materials and guidance documents related to bylaws and policy procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and undertake additional tasks as directed by management.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:
- A Bachelor's degree in Law, Public Policy, Political Science, or a related discipline is essential.
- Additional training in Administrative Law, Public Administration, or Privacy legislation is advantageous.
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in a policy analyst role.
- Familiarity with legal documentation and memoranda is beneficial.
- Proven experience in policy development and evaluation methodologies, with a proactive approach to analysis and implementation.
- Ability to engage with internal and external networks effectively.
- Demonstrated capability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
