  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the Constellation Network Operating System requirements, architecture, and design specifications.
  • Create technical architecture and design specifications that will guide the network operating system solution towards success, while considering scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Engage in design activities across other Lightspeed segments and contribute to the refinement and evolution of the overall system architecture.
  • Lead the implementation of mathematical network control algorithms into robust, highly-available, fault-tolerant, production-grade, real-time software.
  • Provide thought leadership and guidance in resolving complex implementation and solution challenges.
  • Identify and mitigate implementation risks through adherence to technical best practices.
  • Oversee technical aspects of network operations and control systems procurement, from RFP definition through proposal evaluation, proofs of concept, detailed designs, implementation, testing, and operational support.
  • Review and approve design and development solution documents, as well as internal and external test strategies, plans, and scripts.
  • Conduct modeling, costing, and trade analysis.
  • Educate teams on new solutions, best practices, and industry trends.
Education & Experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree in network engineering, software engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience in network engineering or software engineering, with at least 2 years in an architect role.
  • Experience in developing Software Defined Network applications and real-time network controllers in alignment with cloud-native architecture principles.
  • Familiarity with virtualization, multi-tenant cloud infrastructures, and distributed storage systems.
  • Highly motivated and capable of independently driving projects to completion.
  • Strong creative problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Familiarity with satellite and wireless telecommunications is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of routing algorithms, optimization problems, and Machine Learning is also advantageous.
Decision Making & Supervision
  • This role necessitates making recommendations and decisions that will significantly influence the network operations and control solution of the Telesat Lightspeed network.
  • This position requires contributions both as an individual and as a team member. While there are no direct reports, it is a technical leadership role.
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid workplace model with three days a week in the office. This policy is subject to change.
  • Occasional international travel may be required.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

At Telesat, we pride ourselves on being an equal opportunity employer that values workplace equality.
