Employment Classification: Regular Educational Assistant 2 (EA2) & Temporary Educational Assistant 1 (EA1)

Hours: 3 hours EA1 & 3 hours EA2 per day

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general oversight of school administrators and with contributions from other professionals, Educational Assistants play a crucial role in fostering inclusive practices within Pembina Trails School Division. They collaborate effectively to assist students with varied needs and abilities, enhancing engagement within the educational environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhering to established school frameworks, including classroom management protocols, behavioral guidelines, and student expectations.
  • Supporting students facing behavioral and learning challenges.
  • Offering academic support to students in classroom, small group, and individual settings.
  • Implementing specialized or modified programming for students under the guidance of the classroom teacher and resource teacher.
  • Documenting student-specific program performance.
  • Providing assistance for students with complex educational needs.
  • Supervising during recess and lunch periods.
  • Assisting with the swim program, which may involve entering the water.
  • Administering student medication as outlined in the student's U.R.I.S. plan.
  • Supporting students in community-based initiatives.
  • Addressing students' emotional, behavioral, and physical requirements.
  • Demonstrating flexibility in adapting to students' educational programming.
  • Utilizing augmentative and alternative communication methods.
  • Facilitating the transportation of students between educational sites.

SPECIFIC DUTIES FOR EA2:

  • Assisting with personal care needs, including diapering.
  • Providing toileting support to students.
  • Aiding in lifting and mobility training.
  • Administering health care procedures, including gastronomy feeding.
  • Using specialized devices and equipment as required.
  • Performing other assigned duties as necessary.

SPECIFIC DUTIES FOR EA1:

  • Assisting students with their eating, which may include supervision during lunch and oral feeding, ensuring adherence to oral motor safety plans.
  • Performing other assigned duties as necessary.
