Employment Classification: Educational Assistant 2 (EA2)

Hours: 6 hours per day

Position Overview:

Under the general oversight of school leadership and with contributions from various professionals, Educational Assistants play a vital role in fostering inclusive educational practices within Pembina Trails School Division. They collaborate effectively to assist students with a range of needs and abilities, enhancing their engagement in the learning environment.

Key Responsibilities of Educational Assistants:

  • Adhering to established school protocols, including classroom management, behavioral expectations, and student guidelines.
  • Supporting students facing behavioral and learning challenges.
  • Offering academic support in classroom, small group, and one-on-one settings.
  • Implementing specialized or modified programming for students under the guidance of classroom and resource teachers.
  • Documenting individual student program performance.
  • Assisting students with complex educational needs.
  • Supervising during recess and lunch periods.
  • Overseeing and aiding in the swim program.
  • Administering medication as per the student's individualized plan.
  • Supporting students in community-based initiatives.
  • Addressing students' emotional, behavioral, and physical requirements.
  • Demonstrating flexibility in adapting to students' educational needs.
  • Utilizing augmentative and alternative communication methods.
  • Facilitating student transportation between educational locations.

Specific Duties for EA2 Role:

  • Assisting with personal care needs, including diapering.
  • Providing toileting support to students.
  • Aiding in lifting and mobility training.
  • Administering healthcare procedures, including gastronomy feeding.
  • Utilizing specialized tools and equipment.
  • Performing other assigned tasks as necessary.
