Situated on the ancestral lands of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta'an Kwäch'än Council, our educational institutions in Whitehorse are managed by three distinct school authorities: Yukon Education (Department of Education), First Nation School Board (FNSB), and Commission scolaire francophone du Yukon (CSFY).

We are currently seeking substitute educators for the upcoming school year.
As a substitute educator, you will step in for regular classroom teachers or educational assistants as required. Your role will involve executing established lesson plans, fostering a positive educational environment, managing student behavior and expectations, and collaborating with fellow educators to ensure the academic success of all students. Additionally, supervising students during breaks and participating in arrival and dismissal duties may be part of your daily responsibilities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience in a school or childcare environment working with children
  • Bachelor of Education (Elementary, Middle, or Secondary) degree, or equivalent training is preferred
  • A valid Teacher Regulation Branch Certificate, or in progress, is advantageous

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
Candidates should possess and may be evaluated on their:

  • Ability to comprehend and effectively execute general oral and written instructions with minimal supervision
  • Effective communication skills, demonstrating courtesy and tact in information exchange
  • Judgment and decision-making skills within established methods and procedures
  • Proficiency in spoken and written French is required for positions with CSFY
  • Awareness and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations students, as well as a diverse student body
