Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Structural and Civil Manager to join our team at the Abbotsford School District. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preventive maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of the district facilities and grounds, including carpentry, painting, roofing, and civil work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of project and departmental budgets
  • Assign and supervise trades, grounds, and maintenance workforce
  • Maintain responsibility for the standards of maintenance/repair and construction/renovation work performed by staff
  • Establish and maintain preventive maintenance schedules and records
  • Lead the winter maintenance program and coordinate with staff and contractor services
  • Maintain direct responsibility for the comprehensive assessment of maintenance/repair required
  • Participate in the recruitment, discipline, and formal performance evaluations of staff
  • Develop and implement both long-term and short-term plans with regard to building and system maintenance and upgrades
Requirements
  • Current trade qualification or equivalent in a trade related to the position
  • Five years of management experience in a related setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of carpentry, painting, roofing, minor renovations, paving, traffic technology, horticulture, arboriculture, and turf management
  • Excellent computer skills and a valid class 5 B.C. driver's license
  • Proven ability to express ideas effectively both orally and in writing
  • Extensive knowledge of building, fire, municipal, and related codes, regulations, and requirements
  • Strong understanding of educational change, adult learning, behavioral change, and building system capacity
