About the Role

We're seeking a skilled Claims Specialist to join our Property Large Loss team. As a key member of our team, you will handle complex commercial property claims, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to resolve claims efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and investigate large and complex commercial property claims, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
  • Engage with internal and external counsel, consultants, adjusters, accountants, appraisers, and engineers to confirm coverage, determine liability, and assess damages.
  • Mentor and guide regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims handling and support long-term succession planning.
  • Train colleagues on complex claims handling and provide technical advice to ensure best practices.
  • Work with Underwriting, Loss Prevention, and other stakeholders to identify potential risks, hazards, and trends, sharing feedback and lessons learned.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to brokers, customers, and colleagues, ensuring a positive experience throughout the claims process.
  • Deliver key performance indicators related to loss development, loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control, and expense management.
  • Leverage expertise in a creative, continuous improvement environment to support best practice operations.
  • Effectively negotiate claims when necessary and attend settlement conferences and trials.
Requirements
  • A critical thinker with intellectual curiosity, able to approach complex problems in time-sensitive situations.

  • A problem-solver, able to gather information, evaluate situations, and negotiate next steps toward a solution.

  • A strong collaborator, with a passion for mentoring and coaching others.
  • 10+ years of experience in direct handling of large and complex commercial property claims.
  • Appropriate knowledge of relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position.
  • Undergraduate degree or CIP designation (asset).
  • Travel required, with a valid driver's license.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.
