About the Role

The Ottawa Catholic School Board is seeking a skilled American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to join our team on a casual basis. As an ASL Interpreter, you will play a vital role in facilitating communication between deaf and hard of hearing students and their hearing peers, teachers, and other school personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide interpreting and support services to deaf and hard of hearing students
  • Facilitate communication among deaf and hard of hearing students, their hearing peers, and school personnel
  • Offer tutoring and note-taking services to deaf and hard of hearing students as needed
  • Participate in team meetings and assist teachers in fostering positive attitudes towards deafness
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
Requirements
  • Secondary school diploma
  • Three-year Community college diploma in sign language interpreting
  • 1.5 years of related experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to establish rapport and work with individuals on a one-to-one basis
  • Initiative and commitment
  • Ability to work as a team member
Assets
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI) and the Ontario Interpreter Services (O.I.S.)
  • NVCI, CPR, and First Aid certifications
Compensation

Hourly rate of $36.56 plus 4% vacation pay
