Job Title: American Sign Language Interpreter

We are seeking a skilled American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to join our team at the Ottawa Catholic School Board. The successful candidate will provide interpreting and support services to deaf and/or hard of hearing students, facilitating communication among students, teachers, and other personnel in the school system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide interpreting services for deaf and/or hard of hearing students in educational settings
  • Facilitate communication among students, teachers, and other personnel in the school system
  • Offer tutoring and/or note-taking services to deaf and/or hard of hearing students as needed
  • Participate in team meetings and assist in fostering positive attitudes toward deafness
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
Requirements:
  • Secondary school diploma
  • Three-year Community college diploma in sign language interpreting
  • 1.5 years of related experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to establish rapport and work with individuals on a one-to-one basis
  • Initiative and commitment
  • Ability to work as a team member
Assets:
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI) and the Ontario Interpreter Services (O.I.S.)
  • NVCI, CPR, and First Aid certifications
Salary and Benefits:

Hourly rate of $36.56 plus 4% vacation pay
