The Lead Supervisor for Infrastructure Development is integral to a team of project and construction management experts dedicated to delivering safe, environmentally responsible, and consistent outcomes in a heavy industrial construction setting. This role involves daily interaction with contractor management and supervision, fostering an environment where the entire site team can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Project Oversight:
- Oversee heavy industrial construction initiatives.
- Coordinate daily activities across multi-disciplinary projects, steering them towards realistic and achievable timelines.
- Interpret engineering designs and seek innovative execution methods by participating in design reviews and providing constructive feedback.
- Contribute to significant project milestones, including contractor mobilization and the establishment of temporary facilities.
- Collaborate with construction teams, including contractor supervisors and internal resources, to ensure successful project execution.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Participate in regular contractor progress meetings and daily safety briefings.
- Coordinate with other departments to optimize resource sharing and enhance project execution efficiency.
- Occasionally serve as a QA/QC representative, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and local regulations.
- Support project control measures and identify early signs of potential schedule delays.
- Promote an inclusive workplace and cultivate a high-performance culture through clear expectations and constructive feedback.
- Work collaboratively with fellow supervisors to ensure seamless shift transitions.
Safety Leadership:
- Champion safe performance excellence.
- Act as a proactive safety leader, adhering to and promoting safety protocols.
- Identify and lead health and safety initiatives, including incident investigations.
- Mentor contractor supervision with a focus on safety and quality assurance.
- Adopt a solution-oriented approach to construction execution, implementing safe practices and continuous improvement.
- Address unsafe work practices and inefficiencies promptly, sharing findings to enhance overall safety.
Qualifications and Skills
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- A college diploma or university degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
- Supervisor training recognized by the Ministry is beneficial.
- Journeyman trade certification is a plus.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in heavy civil or industrial construction.
- At least 3 years of technical or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Proficient in construction planning and management practices.
- Ability to monitor and manage construction KPIs and Labour, Equipment, Materials (LEM) resources.
- Experience in contractor management within a tailings construction context is advantageous.
- Familiarity with automated or supervisory controls in a mill setting is beneficial.
- Exposure to lean methodologies and multi-disciplinary team leadership is a plus.
- Digital literacy and experience with maintenance management systems are advantageous.
- Knowledge of open-pit gold mining operations is highly desirable.
- Ability to make effective decisions under pressure.
- Demonstrated capability to engage and empower diverse teams.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Self-motivated with a drive for continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.
