Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the Canadian Legal Team: Oversee and manage the Canadian legal team, providing guidance and direction to ensure the team is operating effectively and efficiently.
  2. Provide Day-to-Day Legal Support: Offer expert legal advice and support to management and associates on a wide range of legal matters, including contracts, compliance, and risk management.
  3. Collaborate with Senior Leadership: Work closely with the Toronto-based ADP Canada Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to drive growth and success within the business.
  4. Coordinate with Global Teams: Liaise with members of the Legal Department, Global Compliance, and management to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
  5. Stay Abreast of Industry Developments: Stay up-to-date on legal, regulatory, and industry developments that may impact the business, providing proactive advice and strategies to mitigate risks.
  6. Oversee Corporate Secretarial Function: Oversee the corporate secretarial function for ADP affiliate entities in Canada, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
Qualifications:
  1. Law Degree: Completion of a law degree from a recognized institution.
  2. Bar Membership: Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario, or another provincial bar.
  3. Post-Call Experience: 10 years of relevant post-call legal practice, preferably gained with a top law firm or as in-house counsel for a corporation.
  4. Compliance Experience: Past experience in compliance, including Canadian privacy legislation, CASL, AML, and French-language requirements.
  5. Strong Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, strong negotiation skills with good business judgment, and time and project management skills necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Excellent Drafting Skills: Excellent drafting and negotiations skills with good business and legal judgment, strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  2. Complex Legal Principles: Ability to effectively explain complex legal principles to non-legal business leaders and stakeholders.
  3. Time Management: Strong time management skills, and ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
  4. Adaptability: Flexible and have the ability to adapt to the needs of a growing business.
  5. Employment Law Knowledge: Employment law knowledge and experience would be a definite asset.
  6. Language Skills: Proficient in MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Fluency in written and spoken French is a definite asset.
