Job Title: General Counsel and Privacy Officer

Niagara Health System is seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Counsel and Privacy Officer to join its Quality, Patient Safety and Risk Team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice and support to the organization on corporate, commercial, and health law matters.
  • Manage and mitigate legal risks and opportunities, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Develop and implement frameworks and procedures to support proactive learning and understanding of privacy and legal requirements in the health sector.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to facilitate ongoing communication and anticipate and proactively manage legal needs and risks.
  • Support the rollout of regulatory changes in the healthcare sector and minimize and manage legal and statutory risks.
Requirements:
  • Must have a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctorate and be a lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO).
  • A master's level degree in management, business, or health administration/management is an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of privacy and information management principles, as well as experience managing privacy-related legal matters.
  • At least 2 years of experience in private practice, in-house, or a combination thereof post-call or through articling, preferably with experience in a health organization.
  • Experience handling healthcare sector privacy-related concerns is preferred.
