The Role

We are seeking a Mi'kmaw and Indigenous Patient Navigator to support Indigenous patients in accessing culturally safe and client-centered care. The role involves facilitating communication between Indigenous clients, health programs, and various healthcare partners to ensure timely and high-quality care delivery. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in a health-related field, be registered or licensed with the appropriate body/college, and bring experience working with Mi'kmaw/Indigenous communities. Strong cultural understanding, knowledge of healthcare systems, and the ability to work independently are key qualifications for this position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate communication between Indigenous clients, health programs, and healthcare partners
  • Ensure timely and high-quality care delivery
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities and healthcare providers
  • Provide culturally safe and client-centered care to Indigenous patients
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to address the unique needs of Indigenous patients
  • Stay up-to-date with healthcare policies, procedures, and best practices
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in a health-related field
  • Registered or licensed with the appropriate body/college
  • From a First Nations community or background
  • Experience working with Mi'kmaw/Indigenous communities
  • Strong understanding of Mi'kmaw language, culture, and traditions
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems and community-based resources
  • Demonstrated cultural safety and competency in healthcare
  • Experience with federal/provincial health services
  • Strong time management and communication skills
