Job Title: Project Engineer - Building Science

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer - Building Science to join our team at RDH Building Science Inc. This role will be responsible for delivering building enclosure projects, including investigations, design, construction document preparation, and field review.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver building enclosure projects from investigation to construction document preparation and field review
  • Be the day-to-day client contact for projects from investigation to construction documents, tendering, submittal review, and quality assurance reviews on site
  • Assess and determine solutions to assist clients in ensuring excellent building enclosure performance on various building types, including existing and new buildings
  • Review work prepared by junior staff and mentor and train junior staff on field review, testing, and documentation tasks
  • Participate in project meetings with owners, developers, architects, and other consultants
  • Attend site meetings with owners, architects, contractors, developers, product manufacturers, and other relevant parties to discuss project progress
  • Review contractor's shop drawings for conformance with project intent, performance with respect to building science principles, and scheduling of work issues
  • Research building materials for alternative or new materials requested by contractors or for specific, non-typical conditions
  • Use independent judgment in assisting senior staff in development of recommendations to clients, both in new construction and existing build consultation
  • Manage building enclosure consulting projects, including responsibility for financial performance, technical quality, staff resourcing, scheduling, and client satisfaction
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or Architecture required; Master's degree in a related field an asset
  • ~7+ years of experience in building science consulting
  • ~2+ years of project management experience
  • Significant field experience addressing site conditions and working with the construction process
  • Intermediate technical knowledge of building enclosure design and construction principles, including local building codes
  • Excellent ability to communicate technical information to clients, trades, employees, and project managers while instilling confidence
  • Analytical problem-solving skills and strong investigative aptitude, including ability to troubleshoot and diagnose building performance issues
  • Ability to gather and diagnose information, interpret data and drawings, and assess conditions of multiple components
  • Excellent ability to shift focus between changing priorities
  • Very good project management skills and ability to work with others to achieve excellence
