  • Proven experience in working with children to promote inclusivity in outdoor programs
  • Background in supervising or mentoring junior staff

  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (with CPR recertified within the last year)

Role Overview at YMCA Calgary
Key Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure a fun, safe, and healthy environment for all participants
  • Support the counseling team through mentorship, collaboration, feedback, and organization of camp systems
  • Assist counselors in managing behavioral challenges and first aid situations
  • Serve as the site Duty Manager in the absence of the Camp Director
  • Welcome parents and campers upon arrival and departure, communicating any relevant incidents
  • Participate as a team member in pre and post-camp clean-up activities
  • Model positive behavior while interacting with staff, campers, and community members
  • Adhere to YMCA Calgary Policies and Procedures
  • Attend mandatory training sessions prior to camp and participate in ongoing staff meetings
  • Be prepared to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Foster meaningful relationships with staff to enhance professional development
  • Be open to sharing ideas and receiving constructive feedback
  • Manage program areas and schedules to optimize camper experiences
  • Communicate effectively within the support team to ensure seamless camp operations
  • Step in as a counselor when required by camper-to-staff ratios
  • Potentially lead specific programs or groups, such as Bike Camp or Spring initiatives

For Bike Camp Coordinator:

  • Must provide and bring their own bike and helmet
  • Confident in riding a bicycle on roads and guiding others
  • Knowledgeable in bike maintenance (e.g., brake adjustments, puncture repairs, chain reattachment)
  • Familiar with roadway laws and able to educate others on safe cycling practices
  • Plan and evaluate off-site trips for safety and optimal learning
  • Knowledgeable about Calgary's bike path network, particularly around Glenmore Reservoir and SW Calgary
