Role Overview at YMCA Calgary

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure preparedness for user groups prior to their arrival;
  • Oversee the training plans for all seasonal staff;
  • Foster group development and create a supportive learning environment for campers and staff;
  • Provide support and supervision to counselors;
  • Cultivate a strong team through training, supervision, and constructive feedback;
  • Promote healthy behaviors among campers and staff, focusing on risk management, outdoor living, and physical literacy;
  • Deliver leadership that guarantees program excellence and high-quality service;
  • Manage daily programming for camp groups, adapting to weather, staffing, and situational changes;
  • Support campers through behavior management and communication with parents or group leaders;
  • Engage with camper families to coordinate essential details regarding group logistics.
Program Coordinators will primarily work outdoors, requiring the ability to lift supplies, walk, bend, and stand for extended periods. Preparedness for varying weather conditions with appropriate attire and equipment is necessary. Accommodations may include tipis or staff housing.

This role can be physically demanding, involving significant walking, standing, and participation in physical activities and games. Additionally, some tasks will require time spent in front of a computer monitor.
