Position Overview

Reporting to the Senior Manager, this role will bolster our organization's data center operations by contributing to critical strategic elements, including site selection, development, and contract oversight. The ideal candidate will possess a foundational knowledge of the data center sector and a keen interest in strategic planning and operational processes. This position will collaborate closely with the Senior Manager, alongside other members of the data center team and various cross-functional departments within the organization.

Department Overview

The Strategy and Business Development team is tasked with defining, enabling, and executing the commercial and technical strategies of Intersect's product offerings. This encompasses, but is not limited to, creating opportunities across energy storage, data centers, green hydrogen, green fuels (such as ammonia, methanol, and SAF), and other innovative technologies or business models that bridge clean electricity with the broader economy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in formulating and refining strategies for data center expansion, including market analysis, competitive landscape evaluation, and identification of potential growth opportunities.
  • Engage in the assessment and selection of prospective data center locations. Collaborate with internal teams and external advisors to evaluate site viability, taking into account factors such as location, infrastructure, and regulatory considerations.
  • Support the negotiation and management of contracts related to data center development, including leases, service agreements, and vendor contracts, ensuring adherence to company policies and legal standards.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and finance, to ensure alignment and successful execution of data center initiatives. Monitor project milestones and deliverables to guarantee timely completion.
  • Conduct comprehensive research on industry trends, customer requirements, and competitive dynamics to inform business development strategies. Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Assist in the development of financial models to assess the viability of data center projects. Analyze financial performance metrics and provide insights to enhance profitability and efficiency.
  • Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and documentation for internal stakeholders, summarizing project progress, market insights, and strategic recommendations.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in the Data Center or related sector, focusing on strategy, site selection, or contracting.
  • Preferred experience of 5 years in data center or mission-critical environments.
  • Strong grasp of the technical aspects of data center operations and infrastructure.
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and leadership abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, information technology, or a related discipline.
  • A Master's degree or MBA is preferred.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving business needs.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  • Primarily sedentary work; utilizing standard office equipment including a computer, keyboard, and telephone.
  • This position is part of a remote team, requiring regular electronic and video communication.
  • Some travel for company-wide meetings may be necessary: approximately 4 weeks total throughout the year.

  • Salary: USD $125,000 or CAD $169,300 base salary with a 20% annual target bonus.
