Montreal, Quebec, Canada CAE Inc Full time

About This Position

The Product Overview

The MADXR (Magnetic Anomaly Detection) represents the cutting-edge of avionics technology utilized in surveillance aircraft and helicopters, facilitating real-time submarine detection. This system has successfully showcased its capabilities during test flights and is now transitioning into a phase of high-volume production. Our engineering team is tasked with the critical objective of standardizing this product to support mass manufacturing.

Position Summary

As a vital member of the hardware engineering team, you will be instrumental in defining requirements, executing, automating, and analyzing production tests for the MAD-XR system. Your contributions will focus on enhancing the production testing process to enable high-volume manufacturing while maintaining product quality. Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team of electronics, avionics, and mechanical engineers, you will evaluate the current design and testing protocols to identify enhancements that facilitate earlier and more efficient testing of system components. Your role will involve implementing various tests (developed in C++) to operate the testing equipment, as well as contributing to strategies aimed at increasing the product's pass rate. You will work closely with the Hardware Lead and Program Manager to ensure that the solutions developed align with product development goals and milestone timelines, engaging with various internal groups and external suppliers as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhance the MADXR testing sequence to support high-volume unit production.
  • Serve as the primary contact for Production, addressing test anomalies and production-related issues.
  • Analyze test failures and gather relevant data to identify trends.
  • Create test specifications to further characterize the MADXR system and outline troubleshooting procedures for specific test failures.
  • Identify and implement additional testing based on existing C++ frameworks, utilizing various test equipment.
  • Recommend design improvements to permanently resolve identified failure root causes.
  • Generate customer-facing documentation detailing system specifications, configuration management, and test procedures to verify project requirements.
  • Lead the engineering efforts related to the standardization of diverse testing equipment.
  • Assist Project Engineering in estimating test modifications and identifying associated risks.
  • Support various initiatives as needed to fulfill product requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, electronics, avionics, aerospace, or computer science engineering.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience with avionics products is a significant advantage.
  • Experience with electrical troubleshooting tools such as oscilloscopes, LCR meters, and function generators.
  • Experience in developing software for interfacing with test equipment and programming microcontrollers is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of C++ is required; familiarity with Python and C# is beneficial.
  • Willingness to engage in a variety of tasks, including mechanical engineering responsibilities of low to medium complexity.
  • Experience with CAD software for mechanical design is preferred.
  • Certification training or experience in data analytics is an asset.
  • Ability to produce high-quality documentation for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced work environment and comfort with ambiguity.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
  • Compliance with the Canada Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and, in certain cases, ITAR requirements is necessary.
  • Unique qualifications that enhance team dynamics are encouraged to be shared.
