Position Overview: Reporting to the Manager of Community Mental Health, the Masters-prepared Social Worker will be an integral part of an interdisciplinary team within Community Mental Health, working in community-based clinics. This role involves collaboration with Psychologists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, In-Home Support Youth Care Workers, and Psychiatrists. The Social Worker will engage with children, youth, and families, employing the Choice and Partnership Approach (CAPA) to provide care to individuals up to 19 years of age in an outpatient setting. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting clinical work with children, youth, and their families, focusing on individual and family therapy.
  • Delivering evidence-based group interventions.
  • Providing teaching and clinical supervision to students and in-home support workers.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, with some evening work and flexibility required based on caseload.


Qualifications:

  1. Masters Degree in Social Work is required.
  2. Registration with the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers is mandatory.
  3. A minimum of two (2) years of post-masters clinical experience in child and adolescent mental health services is essential.
  4. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification (NVCI) is required.
  5. Proven experience in individual and family therapy.
  6. Experience in delivering evidence-based group interventions.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to function effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
  8. Experience in case management and community liaison.
  9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  10. Strong organizational and time management skills.
  11. Understanding of the child welfare system and knowledge of mental health disorders, including anxiety, mood, and disruptive behavior disorders.
  12. A valid Nova Scotia Driver's License, regular access to a reliable vehicle, and appropriate insurance are required.
  13. Competencies in additional languages are considered an asset.
