Mental Health Counsellors for School-Based Services in Northern Indigenous Communities

Location: Remote/In-Community

Position Type: Independent Contractor

NCTS provides a range of mental health services to support Northern and Indigenous communities in Canada. We are currently seeking passionate and dedicated Mental Health Counsellors to provide school-based mental health services to communities in Nunavik.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide culturally sensitive mental health services, particularly school-based services, to students, staff, families, and the broader community in Nunavik.
  • Travel to remote locations to provide in-person services for up to 2 weeks at a time
  • Remote follow-up services as per the determined schedule
  • Classroom and broader school support to students and staff as well as individual support to students and their families, including treatment recommendations and counselling.
  • Where appropriate, collaborate with community leaders, Elders, and healthcare professionals to support holistic healing approaches.
  • Advocate for mental health awareness and promote destigmatization of mental health issues within the community.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities to enhance cultural competency and counselling skills.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
  • Registration or certification with a recognized counselling or mental health professional association.
