Senior CAT Claims Adjuster

Reporting to the Team Leader CAT, the ideal candidate will be responsible for managing claims to ensure thorough investigation, assessment, and resolution of moderate to complex first-party Personal and Commercial claims in accordance with Economical Catastrophe claims standards. The successful applicant will also offer mentorship, on-the-job training, and technical guidance to Claims Professionals regarding estimates, vendor management, and intricate structural commercial building damage large losses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement approved Economical loss cost control initiatives and technologies to investigate, negotiate, and resolve moderate to complex personal and commercial claims as assigned. Ensure comprehensive investigation of loss sites, either in person or through Economical quantification programs.
- Gather and document information related to claims and/or coverage, ensuring accurate notes are recorded in the appropriate systems to drive claims towards final resolution.
- Respond promptly to written and telephone inquiries as well as new claim assignments, adhering to Economical guidelines.
- Analyze and interpret policy wordings, acts, regulations, legislation, and contracts to evaluate their impact on coverage. Review claim evidence, statements, photographs, and investigative documentation to identify subrogation opportunities or potential third-party liability exposure. Manage and process all salvage, while directing appropriate vendors and experts within corporate guidelines.
- Provide oversight and quality assurance on outsourced quantification assignments. Quantify large loss Complex Commercial Lines structural damage claims as part of the Quantification Team in support of the Structural Damage Quantification Protocol nationally.
- Act as a subject matter expert on building code and by-law issues related to loss cost quantifications, collaborating closely with national vendors on programs, pricing, and protocols.
- Support regional adjusting functions when not deployed on CAT by assisting with catastrophe clean-up and backfilling for teammates. Contribute to the national appraisal function by completing reinspections, managing exceptions through the Contractor Connection program, and conducting large loss appraisals and tasks on behalf of regional partners.
- Draft denial letters, Reservations of Rights, and other complex correspondence as necessary. Maintain an effective diary system to ensure proactive management and resolution of claim files.
Qualifications:
- A university degree or college diploma in a relevant field, or the CIP designation, along with a minimum of 2 years of experience as a loss adjuster or appraiser.
- AMF License is required.
- Proven ability to complete scopes of repair for moderately complex losses.
- Strong understanding of Provincial and National Building Codes, along with a solid grasp of residential and commercial construction terminology, techniques, and best practices.
- Familiarity with estimating software platforms, including Xactware.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and CADD drawings.
- Proficient in MS Word and Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently.
- Professional demeanor, with a friendly and courteous approach in all interactions, flexibility, and the capacity to remain composed under pressure.
- Willingness to travel to various sites across Canada with minimal notice.
The typical CAT work schedule spans from 7 AM to 7 PM, 6 or 7 days per week, depending on the event and required response.
