Psychiatric Emergency Care Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team at Island Health. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in psychiatric emergency care and a passion for delivering high-quality patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical and mental status, as well as risk assessments.
- Apply addictions theory and management of withdrawal to provide effective care.
- Utilize crisis intervention and stabilization principles to ensure patient safety.
- Employ common screening tools for mental illness and addictions to inform care.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams to provide seamless care.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families to promote healing and recovery.
- Organize workload and prioritize tasks to ensure efficient care delivery.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide comprehensive care.
- Operate related equipment, including computers and software, to support care delivery.
A minimum of two years' recent experience working with individuals with acute mental illness and/or addiction is required. Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant or a practicing RPN registrant is also required.
Skills and AbilitiesThe successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. A strong understanding of relevant legislation and the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (2nd ed.) is also essential.
