POSITION SUMMARY
The Building Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in the operation of the facility, which includes managing mechanical and other supporting systems. This position involves conducting structured inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance, as well as routine and on-demand services on facility mechanical equipment and systems. The Building Maintenance Technician is also tasked with ensuring compliance with established processes and regulations, including environmental, health and safety, and fire protection standards.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Troubleshooting
- Observes and reports on the condition of facility mechanical and electrical equipment, identifying deficiencies and suggesting enhancements.
Maintenance
- Executes tasks in accordance with established protocols.
- Adheres to all internal and external regulations, including environmental, health and safety, and fire protection.
- Conducts regular inspections and maintenance to ensure optimal facility performance and equipment integrity.
- Responds to service requests and performs necessary maintenance on mechanical systems.
- Monitors facility conditions through walkthroughs, inspecting mechanical, electrical, and other systems.
- Operates and manages facility mechanical systems.
- Oversees the work order lifecycle, ensuring tasks are completed to quality standards and all requirements are met.
- Aids in the implementation of preventative maintenance programs, ensuring deficiencies are documented and escalated.
Client Relations
- Enhances tenant and customer satisfaction through effective service delivery.
Administration
- Participates in facility-related projects.
- Ensures compliance with corporate and legislative policies regarding environmental, health and safety, and fire protection.
- Maintains tools and arranges for necessary repairs or replacements.
- Submits expenditures promptly.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma with trades training or relevant experience.
- Experience in preventive and corrective maintenance of building systems.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and other building systems.
- Knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC systems.
- Strong client-service orientation with a sense of urgency.
- Effective communication skills.
- Mentoring abilities to support the development of junior technicians.
- Availability for shifts, on-call, and emergency response as needed.
- Strict adherence to Health and Safety policies, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Capability to obtain necessary security clearance.
- Valid driver's license.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation is an asset:
- Power Engineer Certification or willingness to obtain.
- Building Operator Certification or equivalent from an accredited institution.
