Position Overview

As a Mechanical Operations Supervisor, you will be integral to the success of Kiewit. Your role will encompass overseeing field operations and may involve managing multiple foremen and laborers, along with any subcontractors assigned to the project. You will be accountable for organizing work methods, scheduling, cost management, adherence to specifications, quality of workmanship, and the allocation of tasks to ensure effective project execution, whether directly or through foremen or subcontractors on-site. District Overview

Kiewit is a comprehensive, heavy industrial contractor serving the industrial sector across Canada. We typically self-perform all major disciplines, including civil, structural steel erection, heavy mechanical equipment installation, process piping, and electrical/instrumentation controls. Our business model encompasses various commercial contract styles, including full turnkey, EPC, design-build, T&M, and conventional discipline packages. We have always championed collaboration, working closely with owners, major equipment suppliers, and engineers during the early stages of project development to facilitate a more cost-effective execution strategy. Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily reviews and confirmations of subcontractor crew activities.
  • Assist in the coordination and planning of projects within specific construction areas.
  • Oversee all operations related to a particular discipline or segment of work.
  • Ensure clarity of scope among all stakeholders.
  • Direct craft supervisors and subcontractors on-site.
  • Perform daily inspections of completed work.
  • Provide job safety training and awareness for personnel.
  • Establish budgetary guidelines for projects and ensure adherence to cost control measures.
  • Set quality standards for all jobs and ensure compliance with quality assurance and company standards.
  • Manage and verify that information within the BIM Model is current and accurate.
  • Collaborate with the Project Engineer to ensure that subcontract agreements are executed as intended.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of construction experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a Mechanical Superintendent/Manager/Leadership role.
  • An undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Proficiency with BIM is essential, with 3-5 years of experience preferred.
  • Experience in rail projects is highly desirable.
  • Ability to oversee multiple disciplines, including steel, piping, and mechanical work.
  • Must be a self-starter, highly motivated, and capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to quickly learn and comprehend various processes related to Kiewit's policies, procedures, and software programs.
  • Strong problem identification and resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Significant experience in leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract administration.
