Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Underwriter to join our team at CNA. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for evaluating and managing commercial risks, developing and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients, and providing expert underwriting guidance to support business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwriting and Risk Management
    • Evaluate and manage commercial risks, including reviewing applications, financial requirements, and underwriting guidelines.
    • Determine acceptability of risk and develop strategies to mitigate potential losses.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with brokers and clients to ensure effective communication and risk management.
  • Business Development and Growth
    • Develop and implement underwriting strategies to support business growth and revenue targets.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and pursue new business opportunities.
    • Provide expert underwriting guidance to support business development and growth initiatives.
  • Leadership and Collaboration
    • Lead and mentor junior underwriters to develop their skills and expertise.
    • Collaborate with senior underwriters and management to develop and implement underwriting policies and procedures.
    • Provide input and guidance on underwriting-related projects and initiatives.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
    • Typically a minimum five years underwriting experience.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Advanced knowledge of underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.
    • Demonstrated high level of technical expertise and product specific knowledge.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make critical business decisions.
