Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to become a vital part of our healthcare team. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of laboratory services.
Responsibilities of the Laboratory Assistant at VCH include:
Collecting and preparing blood and various specimens for laboratory analysis. Conducting tests such as urine analysis and glucose monitoring while operating relevant equipment.About the Community
The community is a picturesque island setting located off the central coast of British Columbia, known for its stunning natural beauty, including channels, inlets, and ancient forests. It is a habitat for diverse wildlife such as salmon, orcas, and bald eagles, making it an ideal location for outdoor activities like kayaking, fishing, and hiking.
The local hospital is equipped with acute care and long-term care facilities, alongside a 24/7 emergency department. It also provides laboratory and diagnostic imaging services, telehealth options, and specialty clinics. The healthcare team is composed of various professionals, including physicians, nurses, and technologists.
Qualifications Required
Education & Experience
Completion of Grade 12 and a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program, along with one year of recent, relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Skills & Competencies
Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills to interact with colleagues and patients. Physical capability to perform the duties required for the position. Ability to prioritize and organize tasks efficiently. Proficiency in operating laboratory equipment. Typing skills at a minimum of 25 words per minute.Additional Information
Work hours, including days off and work areas, may vary based on operational needs. Successful candidates may need to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.
