Job Summary

The Government of Alberta is seeking a highly skilled Financial Reporting Manager to join our team. As a key member of our financial reporting team, you will be responsible for managing a team of professionals responsible for financial reporting for the ministry and the department on a quarterly and annual basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the Ministry Financial Statements and analyses are prepared in a timely and accurate basis in accordance with legislation, guidelines, standards and accounting principles.
  • Develop and implement robust reporting processes that are accurate and consistent with accounting policies, while maintaining quarterly and annual reporting processes for the Ministry.
  • Manage the Financial Reporting team to deliver outcomes associated with business and operational plans and performance agreements.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among team members within the unit, branch and division.
  • Support senior and executive leadership decision making by identifying and researching best practices relating to financial reporting, and promoting the adoption of innovative approaches to meet government and stakeholder requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of financial accounting, the Financial Administration Act, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and direct a team of professionals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address complex financial issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
