About the Role

Empire Life is seeking an experienced Actuary, Specialty Products to join our Group Finance and Actuarial team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the actuarial pricing, profitability, and risk analysis of new, innovative insurance products and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Actuarial Pricing and Risk Analysis: Lead the initial pricing analysis, modeling, and ongoing performance monitoring of new specialty product initiatives for the Group Solutions line of business.
  • Product Development and Launch: Support Product & Marketing teams in the launch of new products, ensuring existing products remain competitive in the market place while continuing to achieve profitability objectives.
  • Reserving and Valuation: Oversee reserving and valuation results in respect of specialty products.
  • Reinsurance Partnerships: Maintain strong working relationships with reinsurance partners to support ongoing product development and risk management objectives of specialty product portfolios.
  • Compliance and Governance: Ensure all pricing activities are compliant with relevant corporate policies (Product Design & Pricing, Model Risk Management, etc).
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Present pricing and risk management recommendations to Empire Life senior management teams, including Group Solutions Leadership Team and corporate oversight committees.
Requirements
  • Actuarial Designations: Completion of FSA and/or FCIA designation.
  • Work Experience: 8-10 years of relevant work experience in actuarial roles within the life insurance industry.
  • Actuarial and Modeling Skills: Advanced actuarial and modeling skills, including practical experience in the pricing of insurance products.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced working knowledge of spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
  • Soft Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong influencing skills, and the ability to develop recommendations that balance competing objectives.
  • Business Acumen: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Industry Knowledge: Working knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory capital requirements for the Canadian Life insurance industry.
