About the Role

Aecon Group Inc. is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team in the tunneling industry. As a Tunneling Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for operating heavy equipment to support tunnel logistics and other tunneling activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate MSVs (multi-service vehicles) to transport materials and equipment
  • Erector Operator: assemble and disassemble equipment and structures
  • Operate power shovels or scraper loaders to excavate tunnel headings and move materials
  • Excavate tunnel headings and move materials onto cars or trucks
  • Move levers to control the machine's movement on narrow gauge tracks
  • Activate buckets or scrapers to scoop up or dig into materials and deposit them into carts or conveyor belts
  • Sweep materials from the sides and bottom of the tunnel heading and deposit them onto machine-mounted conveyors
  • Perform other duties as required by the role
Requirements
  • Secondary School or equivalent education
  • Practical training, classroom, or simulation experience
  • Working knowledge of English
  • MOL's required basic safety awareness training
  • 2-3 years' experience utilizing heavy tunnel equipment, including scoop trams, MSVs, and excavators
  • 2-3 years' experience in tunnel operation roles across large projects
  • 2-3 years' experience operating machinery to remove earth materials, excavate tunnel headings, and deposit materials accordingly
  • 2-3 years' experience providing mucking services and ensuring the removal of materials on large projects
Compensation and Benefits

A competitive hourly rate of $53 per hour, with shift premium and overtime opportunities

37.5 hours/week, with vacation and statutory holiday pay, health and welfare benefits, and pension

Total wage package of $76.55 per hour, including supervisor premium

Working Conditions and Environment

Primary work location at a construction site, with project, training, and business-related travel required

Exposure to construction work site environment in all seasons

Relocation within Canada may be required, with relocation costs covered by the employer
