BC Emergency Health Services Senior Leadership Position

Chief Operating Officer
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of emergency health services in British Columbia. Reporting to the Chief Ambulance Officer, Executive Vice President BCEHS, the COO is a key member of the BCEHS Senior Leadership Team (SLT). In partnership with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the Chief, People, Culture and Diversity (CPCD), the COO drives system-wide improvements to meet the growing demand for emergency services and ensures consistent and equitable services across BC.
Key Responsibilities
- Improve efficiencies to reduce response times
- Review approaches for various call categories
- Work with health authorities to improve turnaround times
- Develop workforce strategies
- Enable innovation in emergency health services delivery
Accountability
The COO is accountable for providing executive leadership on strategic and operational issues in planning, monitoring, and evaluating province-wide emergency health services, including overseeing the BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) and Patient Transfer Services (PTS). The COO works with the CMO and CPCD in a co-leadership model where they share responsibility for the overall people and performance of BCEHS.
Patient and Employee Safety
Patient and employee safety is a top priority at BCEHS. The COO plays a critical role in ensuring the continuous improvement of quality and safety in all aspects of the position.
