Position Title: Victim Services Volunteer

Overview: Halifax Regional Police is a multifaceted law enforcement agency dedicated to serving the community and collaborating with Halifax Regional Municipality to enhance safety and security across our neighborhoods. As one of the largest police forces in Atlantic Canada, we are committed to fostering a supportive environment for those in need.

Role Summary: We are seeking passionate individuals who are eager to volunteer and make a meaningful impact in our community. Victim Services volunteers play a crucial role in providing emotional support, crisis intervention, and essential referral information to victims of crime during evening hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Commit to 1-2 shifts per month on weekends from 6:00 p.m. to midnight.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Familiarize yourself with community resources to provide appropriate referrals.
  • Collaborate with a partner to assist individuals in crisis situations.
  • Document interactions and relay information to Victim Services staff.

Location: Primarily based in Dartmouth, with travel throughout the metro Halifax area.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 19 years of age or older.
  • Experience in providing support in a human services context is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Nova Scotia Driver's Licence.
  • Reliable transportation is essential due to late evening shifts and limited public transport options.
  • Good driving record is required.
  • Proficient with computers and technology.
  • Availability to attend training, meetings, and community events.
  • Willingness to commit for a minimum of one year.

All candidates must successfully complete the security clearance process administered by Halifax Regional Police.
