Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Vice President Academic, the AVP Academic Quality & Operational Excellence serves as a leader within the business unit, providing agile strategic academic and administrative direction to fulfill the Academic Plan and The NAIT Effect objectives, in alignment with NAIT's Vision, Promises, and Values.

As a senior member of the Academic Leadership Team, the AVP contributes to the Institute's overall leadership by participating in the formulation of academic and business plans, academic strategies, financial frameworks, and performance objectives. The AVP establishes the strategic direction and delivers essential services for the academic portfolio, focusing on program quality (including learning technology and program evaluation), academic foundations, academic operations (including centralized management of work-integrated learning, current student and industry events coordination, program administration, and scheduling), and the office of apprenticeship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • External Responsibilities:
    • Fosters and enhances partnerships with other institutions to create collaborative initiatives.
    • Builds and maintains effective relationships with local, regional, and provincial governments to support the portfolio's initiatives.
  • Internal Responsibilities:
    • Provides visionary leadership to cultivate a culture of innovation in operational excellence and sound academic quality practices.
    • Advances collaborative relationships across NAIT to ensure consistency and equity in support for students and internal partners.
    • Oversees centralized services and establishes strategic direction within the portfolio.
    • Develops and manages the overall budget for the portfolio, ensuring strategic oversight of administrative functions.
    • Offers mentorship and leadership guidance as part of succession planning.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a solid understanding of academic and administrative leadership within a post-secondary context, and a strong commitment to developing others. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of various issues, including educational, human resource, and quality management theories and practices, as well as planning methodologies, business administration, research methods, and financial management principles.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree; graduate degree preferred.
  • Recent experience in a senior leadership role within a complex organization, managing a large, high-performing team.
  • Leadership experience within an academic institution.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and nationally, with extended working hours during peak periods.

Compensation: $178,236,409.16 annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
