Utility Meter Technician

Position Overview: Under direct supervision, the Utility Meter Technician is responsible for performing routine clerical tasks related to the reading of meters for water and electrical consumption, accurately documenting usage for both residential and commercial clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Travels established routes on foot or by vehicle to take meter readings.
  • Examines meters for any defects, damages, or unauthorized connections.
  • Records any irregularities on designated forms for necessary follow-up actions.
  • Analyzes readings to identify unusual consumption patterns and documents reasons for any discrepancies.
  • Assigns control numbers to all meter cards utilized in the routing of consumers.
  • Compiles daily reports as required.
  • Undertakes additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with meter reading protocols.
  • Understanding of the geographical layout and street locations.
  • Awareness of industry hazards and necessary safety precautions.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for clear and concise expression.
  • Ability to write legibly and follow moderately complex written and verbal instructions.
  • Proficient in performing basic arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.
  • Capable of interacting tactfully with the public.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.

A high school diploma or equivalent, including coursework in the electrical field, is required.
