Job Title: Emergency Disaster Services Social Services Assistant

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Emergency Disaster Services Social Services Assistant. This is a temporary, fixed-term contract for an 8-week period, with the possibility of extension.

Job Summary:

The EDS Social Services Assistant will provide critical support to EDS Specialists and the Divisional Director of EDS in the operation of the local Emergency Disaster Services program. This includes assisting with the provision of 24-hour, 7-day emergency services, organizing and delivering training courses, and ensuring clients receive pastoral care and support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the provision of emergency services, including client support and referrals.
  • Organize and deliver training courses to EDS Specialists and volunteers.
  • Assist with the maintenance of vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are in a state of readiness.
  • Develop a response strategy to reflect the different regions within the catchment area.
  • Provide supervision and oversight to volunteers during deployments.
Organizational Responsibilities:
  • Develop an understanding of The Salvation Army's mission and its implications for the role.
  • Maintain confidentiality as required.
  • Participate as an active and responsible team member.
  • Represent The Salvation Army in a professional and engaging manner.
Accounting and Administration:
  • Assist with the processing of invoices, receipts, and vehicle monthly charges.
  • Assist with the receipt and control of gift cards.
  • Provide administrative support, including data entry and photocopying.
Qualifications and Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License (asset).
  • Criminal Background Check (satisfactory to The Salvation Army).
Preferred Skills and Capabilities:
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in stressful, high-paced environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
