Job Title: Health Care Aide

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Health Care Aide to join our team at Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. As a Health Care Aide, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to our patients and residents.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will work under the general supervision of the Manager, RN, RPN, and/or LPN, and will be responsible for assisting with resident care and providing basic supportive care. The incumbent will exercise the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed, and action to be taken on unusual matters.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADL) such as walking, bathing, feeding, etc.
  • Provide support and assistance to members of the health care team, including assistance to certified Health Care Aides within the HCA Trainee's ability, competence, and training.
  • Assist residents to maintain adequate rest and activity.
  • Assist with constant care and/or close observation to residents as assigned.
  • Monitor wandering residents as assigned.
  • Respond promptly to resident calls, ensuring call bells are within resident reach.
  • Transport residents as required.
  • Respond to the physical and emotional needs of residents.
  • Provide relevant patient information to the health care team to assist in care planning.
  • Assist with obtaining, cleaning, and maintaining equipment as directed.
  • Restock supplies as assigned.
  • Respond appropriately to inquiries, relays messages, and initiates appropriate action as directed.
  • Reports and records resident care provided and changes observed.
Requirements:
  • Proficiency of both official languages is essential (English/French).
  • Successful completion of an approved 7-day Health Care Support Worker microcredential course or equivalent.
  • Completed a minimum of 300 paid hours as a UHCA in the preceding 12 months.
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • 18 years or older; Grade 12 (or mature student Grade 10).
  • English speaking (Level 6 IELTS or Level 7 CLB).
  • Applicants must commit to completing an approved HCA Bridging Program.
Working Conditions:

The position may involve physical activities such as standing, transferring, and transporting patients and equipment. The incumbent may encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.
