Position Overview

Cyient Inc. is seeking a qualified Pole Line Engineer with a Professional Engineer License. The ideal candidate will possess relevant experience in distribution pole lines, FTTX, FTTC, and long-haul/interoffice fiber MDU designs.

This role will involve reporting to the Engineering Manager. We are looking for self-driven, technically adept individuals eager to enhance their design skills, particularly in the review and approval of aerial permitting and OSP telecommunications design projects. The Pole Line Engineer will conduct pole loading calculations utilizing tools such as Spidacalc and Quickpole, and create permit drawings using AutoCAD. Additionally, the engineer will perform research, interpret field data, land base maps, civil blueprints, survey documents, and field sketches. They will compare information on maps and drawings with network facility records and data from governmental and geographical resources to develop comprehensive pole line designs that support FTTH projects, business-as-usual operations, relocations, and MDU projects.

Key Requirements:

  • Must hold a Professional Engineer License in Ontario.
  • Experience in civil, structural, mechanical engineering/construction, architecture (preferred), and telecommunications is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of basic computer concepts and technology is essential. Proficiency in Quickpole, SpidaCalc, OCalc, and PLS CAD is required.
  • Experience with aerial communications line and pole inspections or design, including familiarity with CSA 22.3 No. 1-20 Overhead Systems and O.Reg. 22/04 guidelines.
  • Preferred knowledge of fiber backbone (F1) and distribution networks (F2), as well as high-level designs for 5G/Smart City initiatives.
  • Understanding of permitting processes (highway, railroad, city, county, etc.) is highly advantageous.

Skills & Experience:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, OSP Design, People & Project Management, and Technical Project Management.
