Job Title: Team Leader - Environmental Sample Reception

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Team Leader to join our Environmental Sample Reception team. As a Team Leader, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the sample reception process, providing excellent customer service, and leading a team of staff members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of staff members to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the sample reception process.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers, responding to their inquiries and resolving any issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure that all submissions are received and prioritized according to hold times and turn-around times.
  • Coordinate the receipt, inspection, and handling of hazardous samples.
  • Notify QA and appropriate lab areas of the arrival of their samples and inter-lab transfers.
  • Coordinate the removal of samples and returned containers with Archiving.
  • Ensure daily schedules for receiving, cleaning, and training are followed.
  • Unpack samples and organize them on the inspection tables according to Chain of Custody.
  • Make sure jobs are inspected in priority order and accurately bar-coded.
  • Promptly store samples in their designated locations to maintain sample integrity.
  • Ensure timely scanning of samples into the fridge and delivery of microbiology samples to the micro lab.
  • Ensure daily random QC checks of jobs are carried out.
  • Recognize or question submissions that contain or are suspected of containing hazardous substances for proper WHMIS labelling.
  • Create jobs in LIMS; Identify and create SIFs when required.
  • Scan all COCs, waybills, and attachments.
  • Keep the sink in Bottle Prep area and cooler storage room clean and organized at all times.
  • Follow SOPs and Work Instructions.
  • Make sure training folders and Compliant Pro readings are up-to-date.
  • Notify other departmental Team Leads, Managers, and Supervisors of any issues they should be aware of.
  • Communicate any information of importance on the board for the next shift.
  • Develop a collaborative relationship with all staff.
  • Participate in regular team meetings.
  • Help investigate LIMS/inspection-related problems of inspected samples.
  • Ensure beverages and other Customer Service-related supplies are stocked up and available to serve.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education/experience.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in a specific environment.
  • Experience in a laboratory environment is considered an asset.
  • Excellent leadership, communication skills (both written and verbal), organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Energetic personality who can work independently and as a team in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to effectively interact with colleagues and provide coaching and mentoring when needed.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift 40lbs.
  • Fully trained and certified in all aspects of handling, offering for transport, and transporting of dangerous goods as outlined in the Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Act and Regulations.
  • Good computer skills (MS Excel, MS Outlook, BV LIMS).
