Job Title: Outreach Worker

Join The Salvation Army team as an Outreach Worker and make a meaningful difference in the lives of marginalized individuals.

About the Role:

The Outreach Worker will work in a team to provide client services for homeless and other vulnerable individuals, network with community service and health agencies, and maintain a client record database.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct routine intake processes and make decisions following standard procedures.
  • Coordinate intake with shelter staff and attend case management meetings to report on new intakes.
  • Record intake processes and decisions using the BC Housing Case Planning database (HIFIS).
  • Seek out clients in need of support in the community and connect them with appropriate programs at the Centre of Hope.
  • Record all methods of communication with clients daily in case files.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients where necessary.
  • Develop case histories for all outreach clients.
  • Liaise with referral sources and other external agencies as needed.
  • Work with government and community funders to ensure funding is in place.
  • Conduct comprehensive program orientations for clients/residents.
  • Foster positive relationships with community social services agencies/resources.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Completed up to two years of Community College.
  • Certificate or Diploma in Human Sciences/Addictions.
  • Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC).
  • Appropriate immunization measures.
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR.
  • Valid Driver's License.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of prior related experience, including frontline work in a social services setting or experience in a related field.
Other Requirements:
  • Excellent writing and oral skills.
  • Solid administrative skills.
  • Training in Crisis and Skills that focuses on the prevention of homelessness.
  • Understanding of the needs of victims of absolute homelessness.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.

The successful candidate will be exposed to minor to moderate injury or illness risks due to physical attacks, exposure to infectious diseases, sharp objects, and other dangerous situations. Precautionary measures include Universal Precautions, current Certification in First Aid/CPR, appropriate immunization and vaccinations, and Armatus Online Abuse Prevention Training.
